Canaria Whale & Dolphin Museum – Puerto Calero (with video interview)

The Canarian Whale and Dolphins Museum Lanzarote is located in Puerto Calero between our holiday villas Villa Ramos I, Villa Ramos II, Villa Calero, Villa Temuime, Villa Gaida, Villa Diama and the marina.

The museum was opened in 2005 with the purpose of preserving the natural heritage of the Canary Islands by using dolphins and whales as an example.

It is the first museum in Spain exclusively devoted to whales and dolphins. Visitors to the museum can learn a lot about these fascinating species and their habitats, and particularly about whales and dolphins native to the Canaries.

One of the main attractions of the Canarian Whale and Dolphin museum is without a doubt the 15-minute documentary (almost entirely shot on the Canaries), together with life-sized models, skeletons, photographs and touch-screen computers. Visitors also have the opportunity to get their hands on real whale teeth, bones and other body parts of these animals.

The museum’s motto “see – touch – listen – learn” makes for an interactive learning experience – unlike being a passive spectator in a conventional museum. The staff is exceptionally friendly, fluent in German, English and Spanish, and happy to answer individual questions.

What’s more, the museum works closely together with an in-house research department, which keeps the museum up to date with the latest findings from whale and dolphin research.
