LANZAROTE

The average annual temperature of 22 degrees not only makes Lanzarote the ideal holiday destination for all those who want to “beam” themselves out of the cold, snow and fog into a realm dominated by sun, beach and palms. Yet Lanzarote offers much more than beach and sun and therefore differs in many ways from the other 6 Canary Islands.

From a geological point of view, Lanzarote is one of the youngest islands of the Canaries. In the 18th century the last volcanic eruption occurred in present day Timanfaya National Park. Lots of Lanzarote Jameos were created by this eruptions. Wide parts of the inner island were spilled by an enormous lava flow back then. What was a catastrophe at that period of time is nowadays one of Lanzarote’s main attractions.

An immense lava sea stretches over kilometres around Timanfaya National Park. Bizarre rock formations, moon-like landscapes, waves exploding on pitch-black lava flows and black sandy beaches create a mystical and timeless mood in wide parts of Lanzarote. You can see the typical landscape formed by volcanic eruptions on the map lanzarote above. Yet this is only one side of Lanzarote.

In the North of the islands dozy fishing villages, kilometre long and nearly deserted idyllic beaches, little offshore islands approachable by boat-shuttle and fertile valleys wait for the visitor. One of the most famous parts of the north is the Caleta Famara, the beach of Famara but also the tiny village La Santa is worth a visit or stay.

In the East and South of the island however, bon vivants and entertainment searchers really get their money worth in holiday resorts like Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca or Costa Teguise. Puerto Calero is another very quiet, cute and clean village with one of the best marinas of Spain – there you can find many luxurious villas.

Beyond that the island life was enriched by more and more world-renowned events like the Ironman of Lanzarote, the windsurf world cup and many more in recent years.

Lanzarote Experience informs you about the island’s zones in which you can best enjoy the lively and jolly nightlife or in which you can find the beaches best for relaxing. Zones with beaches roaring with waves for surfing, with calm fishing villages or other parts of the island determined by mystical-bizarre, volcanic rock formations.
