Jameos del Agua

The world famous volcanic cave and tunnel system of Jameos del Agua is perhaps one of the most spiritual and mystical places of Lanzarote. These caves formed about 3.000 years ago, after an erruption of the volcano La Corona. This place, which is a perfect symbiosis of culture and nature, was planned and designed by the Canarian artist Cesar Manrique in 1968.Just a few hundred meters away from the coast, you can descend comfortably into the caves over steps that have been carved into the rocks of the volcano. Step by step you continue on your way into this enchanting volcano landscape.
Those who visit this place for the first time, won’t believe their eyes: You can even find a recommendable underground restaurant here. There are just few restaurants in the world that offer such a unique ambiance. On the ground of the cave, you can find a reservoir of fresh water which contains thousands of bizarre, white and blind crustations. The high walls with a pointed top and the quiet, sacral background music convey the feeling of being in a church. Fine light beams enter the room through little holes on the cave’s ceiling – an unreal atmosphere, reminding of fairy tales of the childhood and the origin of all times, fill the room. Here you will find no trouble to relax and shake off the worries of your daily life for a moment.
After ascending from the cave on the other side, you find yourself in a completely different area, which is already on the surface. Here you can find profuse vegetation and an artificial white water basin with turquoise blue water. Like this was not already enough, there is an underground concert hall providing 600 seats behind this water basin. It is perhaps one of the most spirtual places that one can find in Europa.
